# up.Layer.prototype.location

**This feature is experimental**. Please [share](https://github.com/unpoly/unpoly/discussions) your experiences so we know what to keep or change.

This layer's location URL.

If the layer has [no visible history](https://unpoly.com/api/up.Layer.prototype.history.md), this property still returns the URL of the content in the overlay. In this case the browser's address bar will show the location of an ancestor layer.

When [`up.history.config.enabled`](https://unpoly.com/api/up.history.config.md#config.enabled) [turns off](https://unpoly.com/learn/updating-history.md#disabling) the `'location'` aspect, this property returns the URL of the rendered content, while the address bar keeps its URL.
